Review – KiN (demos)

While we wait for the proper review of KiN‘s first EP ‘…’, here’s a quick review of the first batch of demos contained in their Myspace:

No outline

The intro is great, with the little droning buzz being a little canvas where samples and the “goat voiced girl” start improvising. There’s some moody stuff, but in true KiN fashion, the tempo picks up (love that bass line half-buried in the back). No, really, that bass during the second half of the song, given the respect that the instrument deserves in the final mix, leaves a mark.

The Humming

The scary one of the bunch, something about the choice of notes in the guitar lick (ta ra ra ra RAH ra) that makes it a little uneasy to listen to. The vocal delivery is top notch and somehow feels like that middle song in an album, where you can get the marmite songs that people either remember fondly or just say “it’s ok”. Again, the second-half is great, but not only because of the bass, but because the whole chunk comes together and ties up nicely. “Life!”.

Human Monkey

An slow, introspective song with a very calm pace and a cool electronic motif (there’s some layered stuff, maybe?) flows smoothly. There’s some stuff about crayons, lines and monkeys in the lyrics, but instead of spoiling it for you, give it a spin and try it out?

PS: Do check the other songs. If you like ‘Hibiscus’, tell them I sent ya!
