  • Miss Little Spark

Some say she’s been there for a whole century. Others say that she arrived to Mexico City with the first light bulb. Her name is Ámbar Electra Gómez Volta, but everyone knows her as “Miss Little Spark”, the owner of the electronics shop at number 110-B, República del Salvador, Mexico’s own electronics shantytown.

We invited Lumiere to write a few blurbs about their long-in-the-making upcoming album, Coloso. One every day for the next forthnight. Here’s ‘Gragrofe’. 10. • In Memory of Layne Staley

Today is the tenth anniversary of Layne Staley‘s passing. It’s a strange thing, seeing how any comments & writings about the Grunge movement/era seems to focus mostly on Kurt Cobain and his passing, but never in the importance of Alice in Chains.  From a personal point, the music of Alice in Chains spoke to me in ways that Nirvana never did. More importantly, the…

  • A-Sun Amissa – Desperate in Her Heavy Sleep

  • These days (or janitor of lunacy)

Sometimes I find the connections a bit too overwhelming. Six degrees of separation and all that. Back in the early 80s, I had returned from working in Casablanca to Manchester, and I got involved in the music scene there again. I used to do the door at various venues for Alan Wise, a promoter and…
