Orestes takes care of new bands, I go for legacy acts. That’s the intro for y’all!
Failure – The rising skyline
Not a pairing I’d imagine, but it works quite well. Failure’s new song, The Rising Skyline, has Hayley Williams (formerly from Paramore) going on a star surfing slice of space rock. A slow acoustic that yields away into Failure’s signature explosive sound. Location Lost, Failure’s new album, is out April 24.
Modest Mouse – Picking Dragons’ Pockets
I clearly remember when Modest Mouse got a lot of flack from their “fans”. Float on and Dashboard, to be precise. I dunno, Float on introduced me to them and I worked my way through their back catalogue. Picking Dragons’ Pockets is the new single from their forthcoming album, An eraser and a maze (out June 5), and it’s full of Brockisms on its lyrics, and for those missing their oldest sounds, wait for the second half of the song.
American Analog Set – Lincoln
Wait, what? A new EP, with barely any press? Released on April 17, Lincoln is a four track EP by the livingroomcore masters American Analog Set. The title track is an instrumental, with that droning guitar and vibraphone combo that always hits the spot. I had no luck finding any info on Numero Group, who’ve done their releases as of late. Any leads? Let me know while I relisten to these four songs again.
