That Fucking Tank – A document of the last set

tft

Is there such a thing as a 13/16 (or something) time signature? On ‘Making a meal for Beethoven’, English math-rocking beasts lovely named That Fucking Tank seem confident about it. Ever wondered what would happen if garage rockers actually learnt a few extra chords and interested themselves in distinct riffing, layering, and rhythm? I am honestly impressed every time an instrumental band manages to stand out from the thick cloud of ever so easily tagged post-rock. The fact these guys pull that off their hats with trio formation…? Wait, the teleprompter is telling me this is a duo? Shut the front door! And they do this entirely live? While blindfolded?

No. Here we have something else. Further worded explanation on their sound can be found by just reading a few of their song titles from which, having nothing else in mind for the time being as I’m too absorbed in the powerful sonic texture coming out of my bursting speakers, I shall now proceed to read you my favorites: ‘The Rains Travels all the Way from Siberia and This is Where it Breaks’, ‘NWONWOBHM’ (not a typo), ‘Bruce Springstonehenge’… Ah. You have to love the seemingly endless possibilities of not being tied to actually having to sing silly titles like that.

Being a bit of a Luddite on the whole noise scene, I wouldn’t even know what to call this feeling. Mind you, of course, that you’ll absolutely NEED to be in your “imagine-you-are-hearing-them-live” vibe to fully enjoy this set, as your cerebral atmosphere will be completely crowded by the presence of that heart pounding kick drum, the mind-riding cymbals and the intense guitar riffing. Oh. And take your to be girlfriend to see James… not this fucking tank. These fucking guys set everything to red on this fucking mix. :P
