Interview – American Analog Set

amanset
I’ve been a fan of American Analog Set since that fateful day I came across The Golden Band. Living in Mexico meant that I never really had much chance to see them, until their show at Polyforum Siqueiros back in 2007. Skip forward a few years and I serendipitously find The Wooden Birds, a new project with Andrew Kenny sharing vocals with Leslie Sisson. I interviewed them and now, with the recent re-release of Know by Heart on vinyl, I interviewed Andrew Kenny. This interview was originally posted in Spanish at México’s La Pop Life, a cool website I write in Spanish for and the editor kindly agreed to let me post it here, unedited, in its original form.  Continue reading “Interview – American Analog Set”

Interview – Leslie Sisson

We are fans of Leslie Sisson. We found her lovely music when we reviewed one of the bands she is on, called The Wooden Birds. During the interview we had with The Wooden Birds, it was mentioned that Ms. Sisson had an album in the future. Lo and behold, the album is called Harmony (review) and it’s as sweet as the memories of those family road trips (to SeaworldTampico or Blackpool, you name it!).

We managed to get an email interview with the lovely Leslie Sisson and a lengthy interview followed. We didn’t have the heart to edit anything out, so here it is. Grab a cup of your fave brew and read on..  Continue reading “Interview – Leslie Sisson”

Tamal Superbowl Mix CD

Whoa! It feels like it was barely  a couple of months ago (43 days, but who is counting?) that we brought you not one but two awesome mix cds from bands that might be unknown, but golly gee willickers, they are good. Especially Wet Nuns (they bribed us). Continue reading “Tamal Superbowl Mix CD”

Singles – Niña, obLONG, Captives on the Carousel, Model Village, The Wooden Birds

Greetings, readers who bought all 2 copies of my self-help guide, Surviving Christmas Break Ups with Turkey marinated in Rum! Welcome to another edition of our “off again, off again, hey it’s on again!” single reviews column. Granted, some of them aren’t singles, but I liked them and made my stupid human collaborators review ’em. Mahalo.

This week’s singles come courtesy of Robert Patrick, the Terminator and Agent Doggett. His brother is in a fucking awesome band called Filter and he dropped by in a concert to shout and headbang. AWESOME.

Ah, singles, right:

Interview – The Wooden Birds

We love music, that’s a fact. We also like music with a lot of heart in it and The Wooden Birds fill the bill perfectly. So when the opportunity arose to interview them, we gladly went for it!

We’ve previously reviewed their fantastic new album, Two Matchsticks and Mr. Andrew Kenny was kind enough to answer some questions regarding the current workings in The Wooden Birds machine of musical camaraderie.

Wake up to… The Wooden Birds

Hailing from that melting pot called Austin (believe you me, it’s gosh darned hot there!), The Wooden Birds are an amazing band, having in their current roster the talents of Matt Pond, Andrew Kenny, Leslie Sisson and Sean Haskins. Currently on tour, the band has just released a new album, called Two Matchsticks and wouldn’t you know? It rocks. Also, there’s a video for the … Continue reading Wake up to… The Wooden Birds
