The cake wasn’t a lie. At least that’s the takeaway from Low’s memorable and disturbing video for Breaker, one of their harshest sounding singles.

Drums n Guns finds Low in one of the darkest moments of their career. Minimal arrangements, downbeat lyrics and some gorgeous vocal harmonies (Belarus) are bountiful in what became my all time favourite Low album. I found it in one of my worst times (2010) and it helped pull through some of the harshest, loneliest times I’ve ever lived through.

Breaker is a drum box and clap minimalistic track with a bit of organ solemnity. The video veers towards performance art and by the end, you feel so bad for Alan Sparhawk that you wish you could break the screen and tell him everything will be alright. Sadly, things right now seem gloomier than back then. May we finally find some peace in our lifetime. Or some milk.
