My family usually avoided Stephen King. It was a rule -unspoken- that he never wrote anything entertaining, so I never watched IT, Christine or Pet Sematary when they were out, just later along other of his adaptations.

We did see Stand by me and after the movie ended, my mom did remark a harsh “oh that explains it all” after seeing the credits.

King adaptations can be a bit of a gamble. You got the acclaimed ones like The Shining, IT and Stand by me, and then you got the Langoliers,  dreamcatcher, and his own adaptation of The Shining.

Pet Sematary seems to be stuck in the middle. I hear both kinds of opinions but I get a consensus about The Ramones’ track. It’s well loved and usually a highlight of their career.

I’m noticing that it’s the second time I write about them in the context of a movie. Pet Sematary is as far away from Rock n Roll high school, both musically and as a film.

Synths on a Ramones track is a wild thing to write about though. It gives it another layer of depth. It’s a melancholic Ramones song, something that feels off, but then again, we all have off days and The Ramones were as human as they come.

Happy Halloween.
