After the terrific Failure imploded, leaving Fantastic Planet as their crown jewel of their legacy, Greg Edwards continued exploring the space rock sound with his own band, Autolux.

With drummer extraordinaire Carla Azar, Autolux’s debut Future Perfect is a genre bending killer of an album. Jazzy beats, shoegaze atmospheres and noise rock parlor tricks pervade the whole album.

Opener Turnstile Blues lets Carla Azar’s decisive drumming set the stage. Edwards shushes his vocals, both a lamentation and a prayer.

Sugarless is my fave track. Edwards  is now juxtaposed with Azar’s vocals and the song is as dynamic as it comes. The chaotic ending feels just like a sugar addict crashing down after a few days of dieting. We all been there.
