The bit that you skip #278: Extreme – X out

As anybody else, my introduction to  Extreme was more than words. Both versions. It was a staple of radio and I don’t think it’ll ever go away. It’s too much of a catchy song. It’s a song many will intertwine with a specific relationship in their lives.

I’m more of a Get the funk out kinda guy, but I respect more than words.

After the sputter that was van halen 3, Gary Cherone spent some time as Tribe of Judah, then reunited with Extreme, keeping a steady output.

In 2023, Extreme released Six and it’s a great album. Hopes were high as it was their first long play since 2008. Bettancourt’s guitar work is impressive as always but strangely enough, it was a quieter song the one that grabbed me.

X out is an industrial light song. Place Richard Patrick on vocals and it’s an early Filter track. Gary Cherone makes it his own. His vocals twirl as emotions such as exhaustion and acceptance flood the speakers. It’s a terrific track in a great sixth album.
