The Posies released Frosting on The Beater in April of 1993, and it certainly was a darker affair than their previous two albums. Dream all day is one heckuva lead single but you can tell reality sinks in. The dreams you had as a kid fade as you reach adulthood.

So, when The Posies contributed with Going Going Gone for the Reality Bites soundtrack in 1994, it fitted like a glove. The staple Gen X flick, I can assure the movie was an event. Sadly, there were no cinemas near my gaff showing it and I somehow convinced a friend to drive me to Interlomas (a good 45 minutes drive due to winding roads) and watch the movie with me. My mom convinced him with a sarnie and a can of cola.

I don’t think my friend liked the movie, but he was a fan of Winona Ryder. I loved the movie and it took me a while to realise that the antagonist was the same dude from Empire of The Sun. Ben Stiller! Turns out I knew him from The Ben Stiller show too, as I managed to catch a few episodes on satellite dish in Tampico.

Dream all Day feels like a deceptive affirmation. It has all the staplings of a happy go lucky track, but there’s this imposing feeling of longing throughout, as if dreaming is no longer about goals, but reminiscing.

I sometimes dream of those days too.

PS: Sorry for the earlier version of this post. I stupidly clicked on the wrong one.
