“…and it feels so good”. I think this track and R.E.M.’s “LEONARD BERSTEIN!” are two songs that I need to sing along to in a single, particular part. I might not know the rest of the song but that part exerts a Pavlovian response.

Starting as a duet with soft soul ballads, Peaches & Herb are an interesting story for a balladeers. There’s more than one Peaches. In fact, there have been seven women playing the role of Peaches, all of them great singers. Herb is the only constant member. Except for the time he served in the police.

God knows how Herb Fame fared as a policeman, but he eventually returned to the music realm, now with Linda Greene as Peaches. This is the incarnation we know best in Mexico, as Reunited was an unstoppable hit and even deep in the 80s you could listen the sweet MOR ballad and its gorgeous instrumentation. Harps, violins, quaint trumpets.

Reunited has everything to be a big hit, and in the time were Disco dominated every dance floor, I’m guessing a slow dance could prove a necessary moment of respite (or charlie break) for everyone.

The song has faded a little into obscurity but every now and again, I’ll go listen to it. I remember long drives in Tula, with only AM radio, and this song getting slightly distorted every time we drove near power lines. I seem to remember its sempiternal appearance at parties in the colony I lived, one a stone’s throw from an oil refinery (!) I’m pretty dang sure the song played in every fricking wedding I attended (as in mandatory) when I was a kid.

What’s your memory of this song?
