The bit that you skip #34: The Ravenna Colt – Loner in disguise

I never met Jane Howden, but I met the people she taught music to. I witnessed her handiwork with a myriad Sheffield-based bands. Her influence understated, her legacy, unending. A concert in her memory was organised by Sarah, her sister, and the bands that performed covered as many ranges as you could imagine. Sarah’s former band, firesuite, played covers of Jane’s favourite songs.

For some reason or other, I ended up being the DJ and tried to cover as many genres as possible, trying to keep up with the talent on stage. I remember a moment that night, with the mood as gloomy as solemn as it should, that a mother and her little girl danced to the music I was playing.

The song was The Ravenna Colt‘s Loner in disguise. Their album wasn’t even a year old, but it came to my life at the right time, just in the leading months before a major break up. Something with the album stuck with me and I was hoping it would make more of a splash on the saturated world of music. Seeing that little child and her mom dancing to the song, during the event, drew a smile. The album might’ve gone unheard, but it could still resonate with people

I tried to remember if I ever danced to a jaunty song with any of my parents and I couldn’t think of such a moment. I had other kind of nice memories with my parents, though, so I can’t complain much.

I’ll keep today’s story short, folks. Same as yesterday. Just enjoy the song and if you fancy checking The Ravenna Colt, you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
