Oh. Hi.
Website seems bereft of content this week.
EXCEPT FOR ME.
Orestes P. Xistos, comin’ atcha live! On column number four.
Wow, four of these? AM I ACTUALLY COMMITTED TO WRITING?
Or should I just be committed?
Five singles for you. If you like any of these, follow the artists, give them a comment on a video or say hi on any social network you like. They’ll appreciate it!
Read on, dear people…
Rachel Yamagata‘s gorgeous music got a massive push back in ’05 with Elizabethtown‘s killer soundtrack. ‘Birds’ is meditative traipse, with an uplifting remembrance that keeps the mood up. “The birds you flew to my window” hits hard, though. Why do I remember a warm Autumn evening back in ’96 when listening to this? Thinking of someone who isn’t with us anymore feels less painful with this blasting on the background. Starlit Alchemy is out October 3. Clickety here for pre-save. Beautiful stuff.
‘Shivering’ smoulders towards a pandemonium, with a gilded solo that echoes both a trippy Jack Kirby space-set romp and the internal rage hardworking people seethe with while while waiting for the stupid bank teller to fix my app logging details. Why do we need apps for everything now? Never mind that tirade, Bogwife made the day bearable. From Ashes, the third album by the Danish rockers, is out November 7th, on Majestic Mountain Records.
‘Finding myself in you’ is the new single by Blase. Starting with a synth heavy atmosphere, it swirls into a dream pop territory, where it can roam freely. There’s moment, near the 2:27 mark of the song, where the electronic drum swerves the mood into a solemn denouement. Somewhere out there is out on October 24th. Pre-order with Fort Lowell Records.
Celebrator is the upcoming sophomore album by Dear Boy, and ‘After all’, their dreamy new single is a nice slice of dreamy pop, with a gorgeous video to boot! The jaunty mood intersperses with a slight hint of nostalgia that does make its presence felt throughout. Catchy warm vibes for your afternoon chillout session. Celebrator is out October 17th on Last Gang Records, and there a few bundled options available on Dear Boy’s website.
Nostalgia is a strange beast. You can safely place your feet upon its basalt-like fortitude, hoping for everything to be ok. And that’s fine, but you might stay there, forever, while life drifts by, every morsel of happiness passing you by. Midnight Housework‘s ‘Red Party Cups’ makes a decision to plunge back and see where the current goes, with an explosive second half that makes this single a sight (or sound) to behold. Expansive, with enough riffs to keep mathrock junkies as far from normality as possible. No album or EP info available yet, but check their bandcamp and follow ’em on facebook.
