Review : ILTea

Those tea addicts from iliketrains have launched their own brand of tea (with some help of Nottingham‘s own Lee Rosy’s) and now are offering a delectable Earl Grey (or Gray for our American readers). We sent our squirrel spies to nick a bag from iliketrains‘ fortress of solitude in Leeds and smuggled it back to México, where we made three people try it.

First, a tea connoisseur, my mother. Her credentials are a lifetime of tea drinking (once a very expensive thing to do in México, now a little more affordable). She lived in Tampico for a while and some of the trading ships from England sold tea to the local populace (or traded for tortillas and fine seafood). Brew time: 3 minutes.

“Olor dulce suave, exquisito aroma, sabor frutal perdurable. Media esfera Faringdon en la tetera y listo”

Roughly speaking “Sweet and soft smell, exquisite aroma, a lingering fruity aftertaste. Half a Faringdon sphere in the kettle and done!”.

Second, a very dear friend called Verónica, who not only loves tea but also works on the flavour industry. She loves tea in all shapes and forms.

“Aroma tostado y fermentado, característico del té negro. Bien balanceado con las notas frutales y florales de bergamota. Cuerpo y sabor amargo agradable al gusto.”

Yeah, that’s “Toasted and fermented aroma, typical of black tea. Good balance between fruit and bergamot floral notes. Body and taste are bitter and pleasant to taste”.

Third, our tea boy/CEO/editor in chief Sam. A lifetime of coffee chugging might have impaired his taste buds so we brewed it a lil’ longer. Brew time: 5 minutes.

“I’m usually a fan of all Earl Grey teas, but there are a couple of brands where a strong brew means a waxy aftertaste that feels like when you suck the core of a pineapple. I could feel the flavour in my throat but it was pleasant, not a bitter sense of defeat. Tried a light brew (3 minutes) and also did the trick. There’s  a good caffeine-like kick (let’s call it theine because that’s what some call it when it’s on tea) a I might start being unfaithful on my old mistress Coffee…”

Bah, what a slag we have for an Editor. Anyhoo, my name is Orestes and I didn’t try it ’cause I’m just a plushy cow. Booyah.

The tea can be purchased here. You can also check Lee Rosy’s rather good tea selection here.
