“How long before I walk away?” so wonders Susie Soho in EP opener ‘Your way or not at all’. Strangely enough, this song feels just right in this moment in my life. I guess it’s one of those situations you can get into: how much do you want to yield until you realise you’re cornered? And when you’re cornered, do you concede defeat or fight back?
The song never answers this, but, hey, sometimes life doesn’t offer a straight up answer. Just read Chuck Klosterman‘s Downtown Owl.
But maybe giving up it’s not the course of action that Susie Soho would suggest. ‘Stand up’, with that uplifting choice of chords feels like shoving back after being pushed for too long. ‘Making taste’ is a little fluffier, lighter and maybe in a whole different mindset; a less destructive one too.
Until ‘Eye for an eye’ gets around. A sweet bass line that plays back and forth while the singer wonders about so many things (including a rabbit in your headlights and the price of tea in China, but not that last one…). It goes into anthemic rock after, which is maybe the best contrast you can have to the more slower, introspective side of the track.
Twelve Twenty Seven is a four track EP of some good Rock Pop. Check it out if you like the genre.
