Wake up to Dirty Beggars
Yee-haaaw! It’s Friday, so get your General Lee primed up, have a few sips of that ol’ jug of Moonshine with the XXX label and tore a Barghest with the power of your buckshot 12 gauge. These people are known as The Dirty Beggars and hail from Glasgow.
The band has just finished a mini-tour in London and are getting ready to unleash their newest album, out later this summer.

Wake up to… The Wooden Birds
Hailing from that melting pot called Austin (believe you me, it’s gosh darned hot there!), The Wooden Birds are an amazing band, having in their current roster the talents of Matt Pond, Andrew Kenny, Leslie Sisson and Sean Haskins.
Currently on tour, the band has just released a new album, called Two Matchsticks and wouldn’t you know? It rocks. Also, there’s a video for the track ‘Two Matchsticks’, hope you enjoy it. Please, feel free to read our interview with Andrew Kenny too.
Wake up to … Papercutz and Pleq’s new collab
There’s celestial music and then there’s music with the sky (and the stars) as the driving force. Papercutz have paired with soundscaper Pleq and are offering for free this chillout (and sometimes chilling) track titled ‘Neptunian Moons’, which will be part of a compilation called Celestial Summer.
It’s Friday, so instead of wondering if you should seat in a certain part of the car or declaring that you are in love only on this day of the week, chillax to this track. Best of all? It’s goddamned gratis. Click, ya skint freeloaders, it’s Poland meets Portugal (via music). Brigado and dzień dobry!
If you want more from Papercutz, check these posts.

Wake up to… The Shipping News (slightly remixed)
I love The Shipping News. They’ve done one of the most visceral, punchier albums I’ve heard recently, the brutal One less heartless to fear ( review). Besides having a bassist with a magic knack for doing killer basslines (proof – Bad Eve), they also are from the fabled Louisville, Kentucky, a town so laidback it didn’t tarred and feathered neither Cameron Crowe nor Orlando Bloom for how they pronounced its name (although I can’t pronounce it myself).
Anyways, The Shipping News were approached by fellow providers of post rock, Interstates (also from Louisville), who wanted to remix their track from 2001, ‘Another body, another state’. And then give it away for free as a Bandcamp explosive.
They all agreed, the song came out and here it is, fresh out of the oven (and not a Kirsten Dunst on sight – bwah!). Feel free to download and share with your friends.
Also, do check the Bandcamps for The Shipping News and Interstates. Some nifty stuff there.

About the author: Actually, I DO love Elizabethtown. But that’s a rant for another day.
Wake up to some scary stuff…
The people from :papercutz have remixed The Astroboy‘s ‘The voight score’ for a video that my.little.lie decided it would be to scare us.
Wake up to…Said the Whale
A band from Vancouver, British Columbia (that’s in Canada if your geography is as bad as mine), Said the whale make some easy going groovy tracks for driving around in a sunny Sunday afternoon or just to listen to while reading an enjoyable book.
They also are coming to the UK this May (with dates in London, Liverpool, Brighton and Brixton). Since they are a friendly bunch, you can get 3 songs for free at their website. You want a taster of these three songs? How about this lovely ditty called ‘Orienteering B.C.’? Have a great day!

Wake up to… Castrovalva
These dudes were a nightmare to review. In a good way. With their manic, frantic pace, their care free attitude and a very, very energetic live show (so says one of my collaborators and I believe him), Castrovalva are a unit. One that will be sure you are wide awake.
Are they named after that drawing by M.C. Escher? Are they a tribute to a very bland Doctor Who episode? Who cares? This is ‘Señorita’. Enjoy!
Incidentally: Every time you eat Cheerios for breakfast, an angel loses its wings. Do you want the streets to look like a remake of Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire? DO YOU??? Oh, ok then.
Wake up to … The Cold and Lovely
Cool new ditty by The Cold and Lovely, a project by Nicole Fiorentino and Meghan Toohey. Slow groove, atmospheric and very dreamy. Can we have some more, please?

Wake up to… Love at Death Beach
The lads from Love at Death Beach have an upcoming EP, which will be free as an early download if you buy a t-shirt from them. They were kind enough to give us a heads up and here’s a sneak peek to ‘Transfixion’.
Recorded by James Kenosha (who produced Dinosaur Pile-Up and Pulled apart by horses) and mastered by Rob Gordon, this new material sounds good. We’ll also be having them in our gig in May 17th (invite here).

Wake up to Mazes
Mazes are a cool, fun band (cheap plug – review) that we are enjoying quite a lot here and this new video for the song ‘Most days’ makes us think of Ren & Stimpy (but with less rotten molars jokes).
Cool ditty and hopefully something to make your Friday a little better?
‘Most days’ is out on April 4th.

Wake up to … The Spires
The Spires are a Sheffield band doing some dancey stuff and this new song, ‘Fireworks’, seems like a good way to shake up on a lazy Friday morning.
C’mon, one last day of school/uni/work and you’re off for the weekend. Unless you have to work. Argh!
But here’s The Spires. You can get the song for free in the links provided.
Wake up to … Polly and the Billets Doux
Polly and the Billets Doux do some old school country pop (or was it pop country? I can never tell – but they are good) and recently got to play that overpopulated venue, St. Pancras International station with their music.
Wake up to… Maybeshewill
Check out these fellas new video for ‘Critical distance’, their brand new single dropping in March 7th (on Function Records).

Wake up song for today -153
I came across this little gem because it’s on the soundtrack to the indie flick Bronson (2008), which charts the tumultuous life events of Charles Bronson, Britain’s ‘Most Violent Criminal’. Not only is the film worth seeing (Tom Hardy’s performance is astounding) but the soundtrack rocks.
Glass Candy are a Portland based electro duo and ‘Digital Versicolor’ is perfect for a motivational kick up the backside in the mornings.

Wake up song – 151
It’s October now so it’s officially time for creepy, weird things and I have to say that this video totally freaks me out. But it’s also COLD so it’s time for a winter ‘hymn’!

Wake up song – 149
The new nifty video for Polly Mackey and the Pleasure Principle is pretty cool. Check it out right ‘ere!
Seen them live in April, liked them!

Wake up song -148
Made famous by Annie Lennox’s cover of the song on her 1995 album Medusa, here is the original ‘No More I Love You’s' in all it’s 80′s shoegazey, reverby, atmospheric, new wave (*insert adjective here) glory.

P.s. Check that bassline!
Wake up song(147)-Is I Cinema
